Since May 2001, the city's 200,000 inhabitants are able to buy a range of different compostable packaged products: dairy products, fruit and vegetables, meat and all other kinds of food are packaged in BDP. Biodegradable shopping bags are used as biowaste bags in their 'second life' and compostable food service items are offered as well. Packaging for ultimately all products distributed in the region (or nationwide) can be involved in the project during the trial period.
![]() After use, compostable packagings shall be disposed of in the biobin. The purchasing and sorting habits of the consumers will be studied (in Kassel source separated collection of biowaste, i.e. the biobin, is established since 1994). |
