Compostable packagings are a new kind of products. They can be used like classical petro-based plastic packagings, but there are some restrictions due to performance and costs. There has been a lot of progress in BDP product development the last years in the packaging sector. A good example are BDP films. Starting with biowaste bags, a wide variety of differents types of films are available now. In the packaging sector shopping bags, t-shirt bags, blisters, raschel nets (knitted nets) or packagings for deep frozen food (far progressed in product development) have been marketed today. Beside shopping bags are specialized packagings for fresh food like fruits and vegetables - often trays and containers - amongst these. Also for dairy products BDP packagings are viable in the near future.
