idea - an innovation towards Sustainable Development

Every year billions of tons of organic materials are produced by photosynthesis and then decomposed by microbial degradation into their base products CO2, water and biomass - a global material stream that appears and disappears smoothly, and does not involve landfill sites, environmental problems or high costs.

Biodegradable Polymers (BDP) follow this closed loop model, as they are often manufactured from annually renewable raw materials RRM. Today the cycle cannot be closed as perfect as nature does: fossil fuels are often needed to make BDP products marketable with respect to application requirements and cost-performance criterias. But the vision is a high priority aim in material development: the "innovation BDP" with its extended use of RRM offers many benefits towards sustainable development.

Benefits of BDP Market Development: A Contribution to Sustainable Development

  • Preservation of fossil resources by using renewable resources climate protection: Reduction of CO2 -emission -> stop global warming
  • Creation of new jobs and income for the economy
Stabilization of agricultural markets by growing renewable raw materials on set-aside land
  • New crops / cultivation opportunities for agriculture
  • Development of sustainable technologies (e.g. biotechnology
  • Creation of export opportunities for products and technologies
  • New recycling solutions: Ecologically and economically efficient waste management
  • Creation of valuable biomass (humus) by microbial digestion
