idea - an innovation towards Sustainable Development
Every year billions of tons of organic materials are produced
by photosynthesis and then decomposed by microbial degradation
into their base products CO2, water and
biomass - a global material stream that appears and disappears
smoothly, and does not involve landfill sites, environmental
problems or high costs. ![]() Biodegradable Polymers (BDP) follow this closed loop model, as they are often manufactured from annually renewable raw materials RRM. Today the cycle cannot be closed as perfect as nature does: fossil fuels are often needed to make BDP products marketable with respect to application requirements and cost-performance criterias. But the vision is a high priority aim in material development: the "innovation BDP" with its extended use of RRM offers many benefits towards sustainable development. Benefits of BDP Market Development: A Contribution to Sustainable Development
